The Philadelphia Eagles actually got it done before their first training camp practice. Jalen Carter isn;t going anywhere for a long time.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles and Carter have agreed on a four-year, $152 million extension that can be worth up to $160 million. The potential $40 million-per-year deal makes Carter the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.

Last season, Carter racked up 33 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, seven pass deflections, five tackles for loss, three sacks, and one block in 11 games. Despite missing six games due to heel and shoulders injuries, Carter still made his second Pro Bowl appearance in three years.

Eagles lock in Jalen Carter on a long-term contract

This is the second time the Eagles gave a defensive lineman a record-breaking contract this offseason. They did the same thing with Jordan Davis, as he got a record contract for a nose tackle.

There were a lot of questions about Carter in the offseason, as he was a part of trade rumors, but nothing was ever confirmed. Earlier in the summer, many were expecting Carter to get a contract extension, but it was a matter of when they could get it done.

The Eagles have solidified their defense up front for a long time with Carter, Davis, and Greenard all on long contracts. They still have to answer for young rising stars like Moro Ojomo, Jalyx Hunt, and Nolan Smith Jr. in the next year or two.

Regardless, Eagles fans can have some relief in knowing this storyline isn't going to linger into training camp. Carter has a new contract, and he will be a part of all the drills.

The next domino for a long-term contract might be at cornerback with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. That will be an expensive payday to keep both.
