As per every offseason with Howie Roseman as the Philadelphia Eagles general manager, they are always in the conversation regarding trade rumors or big free agents that pop up.
The Eagles have already been attached to big names like Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, but they might be heading in a different direction this offseason. ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler shared what he heard at the NFL Combine regarding what the Eagles are thinking with big-time signings in the offseason.
"The Eagles could look in-house for free agent splashes. They will attempt to re-sign Jaelan Phillips, who proved an ideal fit for the defense. They could also extend the contracts of defensive tackles Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter."
Eagles ready to take care of their top players
It comes as no surprise to hear that Davis and Carter will be taken care of. Davis got his fifth-year option picked up last offseason, as he is looking at a $12.9 million salary for 2026, but he could be in the range of $20.5 million per year, according to Spotrac.
Carter is eligible to have his fifth-year option picked up this offseason, with a value of $27.1 million for the 2027 season, the second-highest in the 2023 class behind Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers' $27.3 million. Many expect that Carter is going to be in competition with Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones as the highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL, as Jones is currently getting $31.7 million per year.
Phillips joined the Eagles midseason and helped save their defense by providing a consistent pass rush down the stretch, as he finished in the top 10 in pressures and hurries. Philly could be looking at giving him about $17.3 million per year on his next deal if he stays with the Eagles.
Roseman has alluded to the fact that the Eagles may not be super aggressive in the offseason when it comes to signing and trading for outside talent. He wants to draft talent and re-sign them to stay within the organization, as that has been a strategy that has worked over the years with talent like Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, and more.

Some Eagles fans might be disappointed if they stick to simple moves like re-signing their own talent, but it is worth it when the next few years roll around, and they are still in contention for a Super Bowl.
