Do we want to do that?

The Philadelphia Eagles still have some holes on their roster that can be filled in the next few months after putting in the work during the 2026 NFL Draft.

One of the concerns for the Eagles is the offensive line and whether the team should still be comfortable with Tyler Steen at right guard or find another solution. Sports Illustrated's Eva Geitheim
believes the Eagles should call the guy Steen succeeded in Philly last year: Mekhi Becton.

"Mekhi Becton had a rough 2025 campaign with the Chargers, but could be a useful piece for the Eagles in 2026," Geitheim
said
. "Philadelphia dealt with several offensive line injuries last season, which hurt the offense’s performance. Becton played well for the Eagles when he was with the team in 2024, and though Philadelphia is changing its offensive scheme, he could still be a smart insurance piece if the Eagles deal with any more offensive line injuries."

Should the Eagles give Mekhi Becton a call to bring back in 2026?

Becton was great in 2024 as the Eagles' starter at right guard after transitioning from left tackle, playing a massive role in the team's Super Bowl win. After collecting a big payday from the Los Angeles Chargers, the one-year experiment failed when injuries and inconsistent play led to his release.

The Eagles have even bigger offensive line questions after Lane Johnson and Landon Dickerson almost retired in the offseason. Dickerson and Cam Jurgens are coming back in 2026 from nagging injuries that affected their play on the field.

Steen did decently at right guard and started all 17 games last year, but didn't match the level that Becton played at. A big difference now, though, is that offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland left Philly, and the Eagles hired Chris Kuper to replace him, even as Stoutland got most of the credit for Becton playing so well.

Becton regressed badly last year, which would leave Eagles fans hesitant to bring him back, and Spotrac has his estimated market value at $13.5 million. That is clearly too high for him, and if that is going to be the cost for him, the Eagles should just be content with developing their two rookie offensive lineman instead.
