The NFL Draft can be one massive gamble for all 32 NFL teams, but when it comes to Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, he always seems to have the right cards to play.
One of the most popular picks in the 2026 NFL Draft was the Eagles selecting Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers with their second-round pick. ESPN NFL writer Matt Bowen named Stowers one of the rookies who landed the perfect spot and is the best fit on the team.
"With Dallas Goedert returning on a one-year deal, Stowers should be seen as the future No. 1 tight end for Philadelphia. But he should make an impact this season, especially in two-tight-end sets and as a situational matchup target.
At 6-foot-4 with a 45½-inch vertical jump (tight end record at the NFL combine), Stowers is built to stretch the seams or isolate as a vertical target when removed from the formation. He can also get loose after the catch, and that should create more high-percentage throws for quarterback Jalen Hurts. Stowers had 146 college receptions, and he's still developing."
Eli Stowers fits perfectly with the Eagles
Stowers is exactly what the Eagles need on their offense, who can catch and block at the tight end position. He is athletically gifted with his 4.51-second speed and has some of the best hands among the players at his position in the draft class.
The Eagles are going to be able to use him in so many ways in the passing game, making him a versatile weapon. Stowers can line up on the outside as a receiver or can go in blocking situations to open up the running game.
He'll have a great mentor at tight end in Dallas Goedert, who has arguably been one of the best tight ends in franchise history. Those two together make for a great pair that will help their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, have more weapons to throw to.
