The 2024 draft offers a trio of promising defensive backs, as well as one linebacker who would all be great fits in the Philadelphia Eagles defense.

We've discussed explosive players on offense. Let's talk about a few of the 2024 class's talented defenders.

Jason Marshall Jr., Cornerback, Florida Gators

With a six-foot-one, 197-pound frame, Florida's Jason Marshall Jr. has done a tremendous job in utilizing both his size and strength to start 19 games for the Gators in his first two years in the program. He was ranked as a five-star recruit by 247 Sports coming out of high school. He also received offers from Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson coming out of Miami Palmetto High School.

With two interceptions and 13 passes defended so far in his collegiate career, Marshall has the potential to emerge as one of the SEC's premier ball hawks in Billy Napier and Austin Armstrong's defense in Gainesville. Marshall pins receivers to the sideline and his size can help him excel as an NFL cornerback. Hailing from Howie Roseman's alma mater, he has the potential to be the first player Philly's general manager has taken from Florida during the draft since adding defensive end Alex McCalister in the seventh round in 2016.

Jason Marshall Jr excels at pinning receiving to the sideline. He has the size to foster his success as an NFL cornerback. The former Florida Gator could also be the first player Howie Roseman selects from his alma mater since taking Alex McCalister in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Kalen King, Cornerback, Penn State Nittany Lions

If you happen to be an Eagles-Nittany Lions fan, or if you rewatched Joey Porter Jr.'s film ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft, Kalen King is likely a name that you are already familiar with, and for good reason. During his nine starts and the 498 snaps he played in 2022 as a result, King recorded three interceptions, broke up 21 passes, and allowed a passer rating of 59.3 when he was targeted.

With his former teammate Porter Jr. now playing his pro ball on Pennsylvania's western end as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023, Penn State's head coach, James Franklin, will be looking to King to take his game to an even higher level this fall as the Nittany Lions undisputed number one corner. If the young man meets expectations, expect his name to be mentioned often. Philadelphia isn't drafting Nittany Lions these days. They haven't done so since taking Shareef Miller, but King might be worth the investment.

He's short, standing at five-foot-11 and weighing 190 pounds. To many that normally screams 'slot corner' but King has shown that he has both the ball skills and the speed that can translate to the NFL game.

He has been tasked with playing in both press and zone coverage looks, and has excelled at both. It would not be surprising to see the Eagles look to keep King's football career in Pennsylvania if they find themselves in a position to select him.
