2024 NFL Draft Prospects the Philadelphia Eagles are, no doubt, already monitoring
James Williams, Safety, Miami Hurricanes
Standing at six-foot-five and weighing 215 pounds, there is no doubt that Miami's James Williams has the size and the physicality to play in the NFL as a safety. Williams chose to attend the University of Miami despite receiving offers from other phenomenal programs like Alabama, Georgia, and many others. Williams' production as a freshman may echo why he chose to join the Hurricanes.
As a true freshman in 2021, Williams played in ten games, started seven of them, and earned recognition as an All-ACC Honorable Mention. He recorded 31 total tackles, four passes defended, and two interceptions. In 2022, Williams was able to follow up on his strong freshman season with ten starts in 11 games as a sophomore and recorded 58 total tackles, seven passes defended, one interception, and one forced fumble.
With incredible size, strength, and versatility, Williams is someone you should watch all season. He has the potential to hear his name called as a day-two pick during the 2024 draft.
He can be a great enforcer in the secondary at the NFL level. A strong 2023 season could propel his draft stock and, possibly, create some discussions about him sneaking into the end of the first round of next year's draft. That's exactly where the Philadelphia Eagles hope their first-round selection will land.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Linebacker, Clemson Tigers
Few names in the 2024 draft would be as fitting to dawn a Philadelphia Eagles' uniform as Clemson's Jeremiah Trotter Jr. as he's the son of an Eagles legend and fan favorite. Jeremiah Trotter Sr. saw three stints with Philadelphia from 1998-2001, from 2004-2006, and again in 2009. Trotter Jr. was ranked as a five-star recruit by ESPN coming out of St. Joseph's high school in Philadelphia and chose Clemson after receiving offers from eight power five schools.
Junior didn't garner as much attention as some of his peers because he was seen as being undersized. He's six-foot-tall and weighs 230 pounds. At first glance, he doesn't appear to have the prototypical size of an NFL linebacker, but with 89 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, seven passes defended, and two interceptions on his collegiate resume, Trotter Jr showed that superstars can come in all shapes and sizes.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. started all 14 of Clemson's games in 2022 and earned second-team All-American honors after seeing just 59 snaps during the entire 2021 season as a true freshman. He is a constant display of strength, athleticism, and incredible football IQ, and there isn't an NFL team that doesn't value that at the linebacker position.
If they are interested, Junior has the traits to be one of the best players to take on the role of middle linebacker for the Birds. If coached properly, he could fill a need and be a consistent presence that they have lacked since Senior was running around and swinging his axe.
