Add another Eagles starter to the list of their walking wounded
It's a sprint, not a marathon. The more we watch this great game of football, the more we realize this demolition derby is impossible to predict. Good teams can slump at any time. Records don't matter. Teams we don't expect much from have NFL players on their roster just like the contenders, so no one should be shocked when, say, the Philadelphia Eagles lose to the Atlanta Falcons.
Who are we kidding? No one wants to entertain a conversation about parity, not right now. That won't make us feel any better. No explanation for that loss will bring us comfort. Philly can't mourn as long as the fans and the media. They simply aren't afforded that luxury.
We all know what we've signed up for. We know disappointment is part of the deal. The players and coaches however have been programmed for this since birth. This is a week-to-week league. Get through it, and stay as healthy as possible in the meantime.
So, since we're on the subject, how's that last part going for our Eagles?
A.J. Brown still isn't practicing, but now, it looks as if C.J. Gardner-Johnson isn't either.
Varying reports were offered about A.J. Brown's timetable for return on Monday. Mike Garafolo thought there was a chance he'd be back in time for Philly's game in New Orleans versus the Saints. Meanwhile, A.J. seemed convinced the chances were high he'd miss more than a week of action.
This is a short week. After playing on Monday Night Football, the Birds are scheduled to play in the early window on Sunday. It doesn't help that this is a road game. This will truly be a war of attrition, but we'll be frank. It isn't reassuring to see A.J. still isn't participating in any practices.
Did you notice that? C.J. Gardner-Johnson has been added to the list of wounded warriors. That's a bummer, and after playing on Monday, Johnny Wilson sits out again with the same hamstring issue that has bothered him recently.
Wilson tested the hammy out during Week 2's pregame workout session. He gave it a go. Maybe he'll follow a similar script in Week 3. C.J.'s status may not be known for another day, but we'll see.
Our fingers are crossed that he can go. All hands on deck will certainly be needed, and it will also be interesting to see what kind of fire he brings during a return visit to New Orleans.
