Britain Covey expected to miss several weeks of Eagles action
No one will remember this three weeks from now. They may not remember this 24 hours from now, but one of the bigger first downs the Philadelphia Eagles converted early came on an 11-yard catch and run from Britain Covey.
Frankly, that was one of the few times we smiled early. This was one of the offensive wrinkles we had prayed for if you remember.
Kellen Moore is a great playcaller. On an offense that features elite skill players, we wondered if an occasional pass to allow Britain to operate in space could pay dividends. That's what we saw on that catch and run. We just don't need to see another screen pass.
There's a problem though. We won't see Britain do anything for a while. That shoulder injury is worse than we imagined.
Britain Covey expected to miss multiple weeks with broken bone.
Week 3's trip to New Orleans was a costly affair. Philly got the win, but Lane Johnson and DeVonta Smith were both lost because of concussions. Keep in mind the fact that A.J. Brown is already battling a hamstring injury.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson is having an issue with his foot, but he played. Darius Slay and Mekhi Becton both left with injuries. It appears Covey is going to be out for a while.
Rob Tornoe reports Merrill Reese has informed him that Britain Covey is expected to sit out for at least six weeks. A broken bone in his shoulder is the prognosis. That should send him to the injured reserve. Hopefully, his recovery will take less time than expected.
Philly has options in their return game. Cooper DeJean is the next man up. He fielded one punt after Covey was injured. He returned that one for six yards. The expectation is he'll fill in as the punt returner next week.
