Listening to DeSean Jackson discuss Chip Kelly makes us appreciate the Nick Sirianni coaching era more
As is the case with many NFL franchises, the Philadelphia Eagles represent varying demographics. People of different backgrounds, religious beliefs, upbringings, and races are bonded by their love for a football team. We may disagree on small issues like Carson Wentz's legacy and how we currently feel about this team's chances during the coming season, but we can all agree on the important stuff.
To a man or woman, come rain, sleet, or snow, we'll be in front of a television on game day (or night). We love Brian Dawkins. We love Jason Kelce. We hate the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. Then, there's Chip Kelly. Whoa... Chip Kelly.
Kelly's era as head coach is one that we'd like to forget, but we can't. He's long been forgiven, for the most part. He's still an interesting talking point from time to time, but there are a few scars he left that will never heal. Such is the case with any breakup, but if you want to ask about those three long years, it's probably best to do so by discussing his reign with the guys that played for him. DeSean Jackson is a nice starting point. If you ever find yourself doing so, you'll develop further admiration for the past two Eagles head coaches.
Listening to DeSean Jackson makes us appreciate Nick Sirianni's Eagles head-coaching era more now than we ever did.
With each passing year of Kelly's ride through town, things progressively got worse. They went from hosting a playoff game to conclude the 2013 season to landing at 7-9 and failing to qualify for the postseason in 2015. Chip was fired with one game to go in the regular season.
He's most remembered for being unable to get along with organizational employees and ruining what was a good roster. LeSean McCoy was traded for Kiko Alonzo. Nick Foles and DeSean Jackson were shipped off. The latter still has much to say on the subject.
While perusing the web on a lazy afternoon, one we call 'Flashback Friday', we came across a clip that was about four months old, one we hadn't seen before. During a recent interview, good ol' Chip's name was brought up. You can only imagine how that went.
This one contains some offensive language, so put the children to bed early. You have been warned. In the meantime, we aren't quite sure who to credit for the drop, but if you know the content creators, tell them we said thanks a bunch.
There's a moral here. Time heals all wounds. One day, the further we get from the Chip Kelly coaching era, those old wounds will heal. We aren't quite there yet. Neither is DeSean Jackson, but don't you have a newfound appreciation for Doug Pederson and Nick Sirianni?
We feel like we should say something nice here. At least we can thank Kelly for bringing in Lane Johnson and Zach Ertz. No... Wait... That was Howie Roseman... Forget that last nugget. We apologize.
Here's what we can do. We can thank Chip for Jeff Stoutland, even if that's just about all that we can thank him for. See? We found something! There's nothing but positive vibes this way.
