Devin White understandably isn't pleased with the Eagles decision, but to his credit, he's handling things maturely.

Think back to the announcement of the Philadelphia Eagles' Devin White acquisition. Remember what we were thinking? Without even seeing him play or take a snap in practice, we were certain he'd earn a starting job.

Oh, come on! Don't act like it's just us!

There were some strange aspects of the story surrounding his signing. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers benched him during the most recent postseason before ultimately giving up on him.

That's when it hit us. We started asking questions about what he could contribute while snooping around looking for baggage. Do we really need this guy when Tampa doesn't want him? They need all of the help they can get, right?

Rather than listen to reason, we listened to our hearts. We resigned ourselves to thinking that he's a former first-round draft choice who was once one of the best players on the field in a Super Bowl.

So, we went with the 'low-risk, high-reward' angle, but alas... We're starting to feel more of the risk and less of the reward.

Word has gotten to Devin White that Nakobe Dean is the Eagles' starting middle linebacker.

One year... $4 million... $3.5 million guaranteed at signing. Spotrac reminds us those were the terms of the deal White agreed to on March 18. Much has changed since then.

Philadelphia drafted Jeremiah Trotter Jr, and two other guys have passed White on the depth chart. Don't look now, but Nakobe Dean and Zack Baun are the Eagles' best linebackers.

Vic Fangio met with Philly media members ahead of Week 2's game versus the Atlanta Falcons. He didn't mince any words. "Nakobe is the starter".

Many wondered how White would respond to that. We didn't have to wait long for the answer as media members surrounded him after a Thursday afternoon practice,

He didn't get the news from Vic he says. He's visibly upset, understandably so, but he's maturely handling things.

White missed the Eagles' first game of the season due to an ankle injury and didn't travel with the team to Brazil. As you can gather from his statements, this is the same ankle that previously hampered him.

His status for Week 2 is unknown. It also appears had he been able to play that Philly would have started Dean anyway. Based on what we gathered from training camp and the preseason, that's the correct approach.

White may have taken a ton of first team reps, but Dean one the job. Good for him. Now, it's up to White to use this as motivation and get better. As he states, he'll need to be ready if the decision is made to call his number.
