Eagles besides Saquon Barkley whose stock is soaring after the win over Packers
Can we tell you a secret? This past March, it was hard to avoid the temptation to be excited about Saquon Barkley's signing. We thought we were being punked. There's no way the Philadelphia Eagles would sign a running back and give him that much money.
Well, they did it! Philly added one of the best tailbacks in the game, but here's another secret. We were afraid that he might not be that dominant version of Saquon Barkley that we remembered.
Yes friends... We were skeptical.
It's a long season, but after Week 1.... Whew... Can you say pumped? We're trying to take this 'one game at a time approach', but we won't lie. That's difficult to do now.
Saquon Barkley's debut was one of the best we've seen by an Eagle since the NFL merger in the 60s. Terrell Owens produced the other. Make no mistake about it. The former Nittany Lion's stock is soaring, and seemingly, everyone in the world has noticed.
Believe it or not though, there are other Eagles who are enjoying a recent stock increase. This is their story. Here are five more Eagles who are soaring.
Zack Baun, linebacker
Saquon Barkley's Eagles debut was so good that it's easy for the casual fan to gloss over how good Zack Baun was. Things couldn't have gone any better for Number 53. If you didn't know any better, you'd think his stat line included misprints.
Dude logged 15 tackles, two sacks, and two QB hits in the opener. His second QB sack was a walk-off game-ender.
If Baun can keep this up, Vic Fangio will be able to walk into Howie Roseman's office and request whomever he wants. It's early, but, for a night, he turned Zack into the second coming of Ray Lewis.
Quinyon Mitchell, cornerback
We wondered how Quinyon Mitchell might be deployed, and goodness gracious! We got our answer swiftly. He started outside opposite Darius Slay, and the results were very favorable.
He's so long and rangy that you can forget he runs a 4.33-second 40-yard dash. We were reminded by seeing him run stride for stride with Green Bay's Christian Watson. Q enjoyed five tackles and two pass breakups in this one. We also saw some swagger.
He was born to play in Philly. All of thos reps vs AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith appear to be paying off.
Reed Blankenship, safety
The last time the Eagles played the Green Bay Packers in 2022, Reed Blankenship became the first former undrafted rookie to intercept a pass from Aaron Rodgers. This past Friday, he picked off the future Pro Football Hall of Famer's successor.
Reed's interception helped shift some needed momentum in Philly's favor at a key moment in the game. That's what every defense needs, for its best players to make big plays when needed.
DeVonta Smith & AJ Brown, wide receivers
DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown have spoiled us. They're so good that we aren't shocked when they do great things anymore, but trust us if you're a new Eagles fan. Being home to the best WR duo in the NFL is a new thing.
These two combined for 12 receptions, 203 yards receiving, and a TD. Just watch AJ on this one, and take a moment to appreciate the beauty.
We imagine that somewhere Donovan McNabb is wondering where these guys were when he was in Philly. Sometimes, you have to give your stars credit too, even if their brilliance no longer surprises you.
