The Philadelphia Eagles had one of the most disappointing endings to the 2023 season.

Philadelphia, one year after winning the NFC and reaching the Super Bowl, were among the championship favorites after a 10-1 start to the year. Down the stretch, though, Philadelphia folded by losing five of its final six regular-season games.

Philadelphia coughed up a commanding lead to the Dallas Cowboys for the NFC East title and backed into the playoffs as a Wild Card, where they were bounced in the first round in a lifeless performance (32-9) against the Buccaneers on the road.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts struggled with nagging injuries and head coach Nick Sirianni quickly went on the hot seat. Both are back in 2024 and oddsmakers are still bullish on the Eagles’ chances to make some noise in the NFC.

Eagles opening 2024 win total prediction

Despite the late-season collapse, the Eagles still have a 2024 opening win total of 10.5 games, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. That’s one game less than the 11.5 total they had last year after they were Super Bowl runners-up in 2022.

That number puts Philadelphia firmly in the mix for another division title and a fourth consecutive postseason appearance. Looking around the NFC East, the Eagles and Cowboys both have a 10.5-game win total. Both squads will look to stack the win column against two rebuilding squads in the NFC East in the Giants and Commanders, which both sit at 6.5 games for the upcoming season.

According to FanDuel, the Cowboys are a slight favorite (+125) over Philadelphia (+130) to win the NFC East, a division that has not had a repeat champion since Andy Reid’s Eagles won four straight from 2001-2004.

The Eagles are fourth on the odds board, per FanDuel, to win the NFC next season at +750 ($100 bet wins $750), which carries an implied probability of 11.76% that Philadelphia will reach the Super Bowl for the second time in three seasons. The Eagles are behind the San Francisco 49ers (+240), Detroit Lions (+600) and Cowboys (+650).

The Eagles cracked the top-10 in FanDuel to win the Super Bowl next season at +1600.

Jalen Hurts getting MVP love

Hurts was in the NFL’s Most Valuable Player mix after the Eagles’ 10-1 start, but stumbling down the stretch tanked the young quarterback’s chances.

Hurts still threw for a career-high 3,858 yards and 23 touchdowns, though he did dubiously set a career-high 15 interceptions. On the ground, Hurts anchored the “Tush Push” and found the endzone 15 times, though he ran for just 605 total yards, his lowest rushing output in three seasons as a full-time starter.

Hurts still has two dynamic weapons on the outside in wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. For a quarterback-driven award, Hurts is ninth on FanDuel on the MVP odds board at +1800.
