Five more reasons to fall further in love Eagles kicker Jake Elliott
Kickers don't get a lot of love. We don't draft them high on our Fantasy football teams. They spend most of their time by themselves at practice on gameday. They only receive close-ups on television when there's a kickoff or a field goal attempt. Whenever we bring up the Philadelphia Eagles, though they have had some good ones (Tony Franklin, David Akers, and Jake Elliott come to mind), we don't often mention them as the greatest players we have seen.
Kickers will never make $10 million per season. Their existence is diminished to being heroes or goats (and we don't mean the complimentary meaning of G.O.A.T.), but there's something about our guys.
'Tony Toes' went to work without a shoe on his kicking foot. 'Green Akers' once broke his nose while trying to make a tackle. Jake is often credited with being one of the best athletes on the current Eagles roster. He can play basketball and baseball. Hell... He can golf and play tennis!
Tell us this doesn't put a smile on your face.
Jake Elliott was a gift given by Cincinnati to Philadelphia. The Bengals drafted him during the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft but cut him. The Eagles then picked him up. The rest, as they say, is history.

Here are four more reasons to love an Eagles fan favorite Jake Elliott.
Since joining the Eagles, Jake has earned a Pro Bowl nod (2021) and a Second-Team Al-Pro designation (2023). He is also a Super Bowl champion. It's no wonder why he's a fan favorite. Birds fans could grab a Number 4 jersey out of the team store and be totally satisfied with the purchase.
We could talk about Jake for hours. We won't, but we will give him some flowers. Here are ten reasons why he's permanently on the Valentine's Day list.
1. Jake Elliott has ever missed a field goal attempt from 58 yards or more.
Try kicking a 58-yard field goal. It isn't as easy as it looks, but then again, everyone isn't born with a cannon for a leg. If our numbers are correct, Jake is perfect on four career attempts. Two of said kicks double as a franchise record.
2. Jake owns the NFL record for longest field goal made by a rookie and the longest field goal in franchise history.
No rookie has ever made a field goal longer than Jake's 61-yarder in 2017. No Eagles kicker can lay claim to connecting from a longer distance. Jake has done it twice. No die-hard Birds fan doesn't think about him when hearing the number, and the following clips are why that is true.
3. Jake Elliott has never missed a game-winning field goal
If you need a game-winner call on Jake. He'll deliver. We have no doubts. Here's one of the more recent. Let this sink in for a few.
Merrill Reese's call there was everything.
4. Jake Elliott is perfect on game-tying field goals.
If you need a game-tying field goal, again, call on Jake. How about one in Kelly Green to send the Birds to overtime versus the Buffalo Bills?
Who gives a good doggone about weather? Jake doesn't!
5. Jake Elliott is perfect in the postseason as a field goal kicker.
At last count, Jake is a perfect 16 for 16 in postseason play. He's missed on two extra-point attempts. He's 23 for 25, but we'll still label him as clutch. In total, he has stacked 71 points in 11 career playoff games including three points that we'll never forget.
Other fun facts about Jake that are worth noting
There is no point in ending the love fest now. Here are a few other things of note:
Jake Elliott owns the franchise record for best field goal percentage in a season. We're talking about guys who have played in every game, full-time kickers. 93.8% in 2023 is the best we have ever seen from a kicker in an Eagles jersey.
He also connected on 45 of 46 extra-point attempts (97.8%) in 2023. He owns franchise records for the most 50-yard field goal conversions in a season (7).
No Eagles kicker has made more 50-plus-yard field goals. He has converted on 26 attempts. He also owns the team record for the longest field goal made during the playoffs (53 yards) and the longest-made field goal in a Super Bowl (46 yards).
We repeat... He earns a permanent spot on the Valentine's Day list.
