Flashback Friday: Michael Vick and the Eagles deliver a Monday night beatdown
As the words of the story are being typed (and, in some cases, read), we are officially seven days away from the first regular-season game of the Philadelphia Eagles' season. You may have heard about that one. São Paulo will provide the backdrop. The Green Bay Packers are the opponent. Anitta is performing at halftime.
The Birds have some new toys on both sides of the ball. There are two new coordinators, Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio. We're seven days away.
That thought led to another. We began thinking of great players who wore the number 7 jersey. Jeff Garcia... Haason Reddick... Ron Jaworski... Michael Vick...
Flashback Friday: Mike Vick and the Eagles maul Washington on Monday Night Football.
How about that Mike Vick fella? Gather 'round the campfire boys and girls! Here's a story about one of the most exciting players to ever play the QB position in the NFL and one of his most exciting nights as a Bird, one where he threw for 333 yards and four TDs. He also ran for 80 yards and two more.
Seven days remain until the first game... Who better to help us celebrate than Number 7?
Picture it. Week 10 of the 2010 NFL season is one of those games that's forever a part of our memories. Donovan McNabb, the Eagles' all-time leader in most of the statistical categories we care about, suited to lead his team... the one that plays in Washington...
Philly had traded him on April 4 of that year in return for a 2010 second-round draft choice and a conditional third- or fourth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Michael Vick was the new starter in Philly. No one was expecting how this one played out.
Everything began with some trash-talk between DeSean Jackson and LaRon Landry. Then, on the first play of the game, Vick threw a bomb to D-Jax with Landry in coverage. We all know what happened next.
Michael Vick's performance in this one and his comeback win over the New York Giants five weeks later in Week 15 will forever be remembered as his best games in Eagles green. He notched a 150.7 passer rating in this one. He gave us so many positive memories as Birds fans.
Let's make some more seven days from now, shall we?
