Former Eagles star could flip the script and return to Philadelphia via trade

Wouldn't this be something?

Back in the spring and at the height of the NFL offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles opted to trade Pro Bowl pass rusher Haason Reddick to the New York Jets for a conditional third-round pick in 2026.

Eagles fans had been hopeful that the conditions would be met and Philly would end up with a second-round pick based on Reddick's performance, but to this point, that's not looking likely. For those who may not be up on the situation, Reddick has sat out the season thus far in hopes that he'll receive a new contract.

In the final year of his current deal, Reddick has now forfeited roughly $8 million by holding out and it doesn't appear there's an end in sight.

Meanwhile, ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini recently offered some insight on the Reddick situation and just how frustrated the veteran has become with New York. On his latest podcast episode, Cimini talked about a potential trade back to the Eagles, as crazy as that might sound.

"Let's put it this way: a little birdie told me that Reddick, I don't think, would be opposed to something like that," Cimini said.

"I think Reddick is so frustrated with the Jets' situation— and of course, he did request a trade in August— so frustrated that he wouldn't mind going back to Philadelphia."

Haason Reddick coming back to the Eagles would be both funny and exactly what the team needs

One possibility Cimini mentioned was the idea of the Eagles sending Bryce Huff back to the Jets in return for Reddick, which would be quite the turn of events. Reddick originally wanted a long-term deal from Philadelphia and the Eagles opted to trade him instead. Now? Reuniting might be the best-case scenario for both sides.

Huff has yet to notch a single sack for the Eagles on 80 defensive snaps played thus far. It's fair to hypothesize that Reddick would have at least given them one, to this point.

Philadelphia has totaled the third-fewest sacks on the season, through three games, with only four as a team. To say they would welcome Reddick back might be a severe understatement. The Eagles need pass rush help, and desperately.

Would the Jets entertain trading Reddick at this point? They just might. As much as New York can try and tell people Reddick's situation isn't necessarily a distraction, it still exists. There is some level of distraction, there, whether the Jets want to admit it or not.

If the Eagles could make a deal like this happen, one would think both organizations pull the trigger.
