Mekhi Becton and Kelee Ringo are on track to crack the Eagles starting lineup

Things can change, but don't be shocked if Mekhi Becton and Kelee Ringo win starting jobs.

Truthfully, there were days when we were leaning towards writing this story (or one like it). It seemed like it was inevitable. The decision, however, was made to hold off. We've seen former ballers sign with the Philadelphia Eagles before only to disappoint us, especially recently.

You remember Ryan Kerrigan, Robert Quinn, Shaq Leonard, Kevin Byard, and Rashaad Penny, don't you? It appears Penny will retire by the way.

Once you've seen one second chance fail, there's a weird temptation to feel like most will. Maybe that isn't fair. Mekhi Becton deserves his own slate. So does Devin White and everyone else. Everyone has to author their own tale.

We're enjoying Becton's story though. He might make the most of that second opportunity yet. As a matter of fact, he seems to be on his way to earning a starter's job, along with a third-day pick from the 2023 draft class.

Mekhi Becton and Kelee Ringo making the most of every opportunity at Eagles training camp.

They probably didn't need to tell us this, but the Eagles' depth chart is far from complete. We know who the guys on the top half of the roster are, but there are chances for some surprises at the bottom half once final cuts are made. There may even be a few starting positions that are up for grabs.

Philly, as camp began, gave Tyler Steen a lot of work at the starting right guard position, but following an ankle injury the second-year O-lineman suffered on Saturday, Becton has stepped right in.

He looks good. He also looked good early with the first team while working in relief of a then-injured Landon Dickerson who sat out of a couple of practice sessions due to a toe laceration.

It has been a tough camp for Landon from a physical standpoint. On July's final Tuesday, during the Eagles' fifth practice session of camp, he headed into a medical tent after injuring himself during 1-on-1 drills. He returned but remained on the sideline. Obviously, we hope everything is okay.

In secondary news, Kelee Ringo, a fourth-round draft choice in 2023, has shared first-team snaps across from Darius Slay with Isaiah Rodgers. Both have played very well, but Kelee has received more of the first-team reps as of late. That isn't significant. Neither is Becton's workload.

Remember... Jeff Stoutland asked that Becton be added and that he receive an opportunity to coach him. We also know that first-team reps mean more with the Eagles' O-line than probably any other position group. Stout likes to get his starters comfortable with one another, so the playing time for Becton is worth noting.

Forget the stories you heard about him vomiting at practice. He isn't nervous. He's ready, and as he stated during a chat with Philly media members, seeing him do so isn't uncommon. If we're being honest, adding a six-foot-seven, 363-pounder to the O-line certainly sounds like a win-win to us.
