Harold Carmichael- Wide Receiver

The best and longest-tenured player to ever don the number 17 jersey for the Eagles was wide receiver Harold Carmichael. He did so for 13 NFL seasons. From 1971 until 1983, he set a standard that was tough to follow.

Following an experiment to play him at the tight end position as a rookie, Carmichael returned to his natural position (wide receiver) and never looked back. That was a wise decision.

He posted 288 receiving yards as a rookie. He notched 8,690 big ones during the next dozen, giving him 8,978 for his career. That's still a franchise record by the way. He appeared in seven playoff games and hauled in 29 receptions for 465 yards and reached the end zone six times.

Carmichael is a former NFL Man of the Year (1980). He's a two-time Second-Team All-Pro (1973, 1979), a four-time Pro Bowler (1973, 1978–1980), and a member of the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team.

He's a former NFL receiving yards and receptions leader (1973), a member of the Philadelphia Eagles 75th Anniversary Team, the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Carmichael would spend his final year with the Dallas Cowboys, but we can forgive him for that. The legendary wide receiver is an Eagle through and through who has long taken his place in the hearts of Philly fans both old and young.
