The 2024 Philadelphia Eagles regular season nears, and it's approaching rapidly. Training camp is in full swing and while there have been expected occurrences, we have also been treated to a few surprises.

The Hall of Fame game is in our rearview mirror. Another workweek for the Birds is also underway. Sunday brought the first of four practices in four days. They travel to Baltimore on Thursday and face an always dominant preseason team in the Ravens on Friday.

Players will look to prove their mettle and continue their quest to earn roster spots. The Ravens should provide some worthy competition.

Speaking if the roster.

The NFL began handling cut dates differently in 2023.

In past years, the NFL's preseason schedule consisted of a series of landmark cut dates. Philly and the NFL's other 31 professional franchises were asked to give a set number of players their walking papers by pre-established deadlines.

In 2023, that changed. Each NFL team is now allowed to carry 90 players throughout the preseason and make one cut to bring the regular-season roster down to 53 men.

When Is the NFL's final cutdown date?

For the 2024 season, NFL teams are required to reduced their rosters to the aforementioned maximum of 53 players on the active/inactive list by 4 p.m. EST on August 27.

Once final cuts are made, the Eagles can begin piecing a 16-man practice squad together. In Philly's case, they're allowed 17 players as undrafted rookie free agent Laekin Vakalahi receives a special roster exemption. He does so by virtue of being added via the NFL's International Player Pathway Program.

The regular season begins with a Thursday Night Football showdown on September 5. The Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens for that one.
