There are a lot of frustrated Philadelphia Eagles fans after some of the struggles they have faced offensively over the last two games, but the latest chatter regarding quarterback Jalen Hurts is starting to feel ridiculous.
Hurts has been taking a lot of heat over the last four games for his poor play. In three of the four games, he has failed to complete more than 60% of his passes. He's coming off a game in the 24-15 loss to the Chicago Bears, where he had two turnovers in the second half that sunk the Eagles.
The new criticism of Hurts this week is reports that he asked the team to run fewer QB-designed runs during the season. This has driven the Philly sports media wild, including SportsRadio 94 WIP radio host Joe Giglio, who has started bringing up the idea that some Eagles fans have quietly thought about: Hurts.
"I have started to privately wonder what the Eagles' offense would look like if Tanner McKee was playing quarterback. I don't think I'm the only one out there."
The Hurts conversation has now gotten out of control
As much as Eagles fans love McKee, there is no comparison between him and Hurts. Those in the Philly sports media are now going a bit overboard in criticizing Hurts, which needs to stop.
McKee had a nice little run last year with 323 yards and four touchdowns in two games in 2024. Something to keep in mind, though, as those were against the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants, two of the worst teams in the NFL last season.
Hurts has won over 70% of the games he has started, been to two Pro Bowls, won a Super Bowl, and was Super Bowl MVP. All of a sudden, he's not a good enough quarterback to start for this team?
Yes, Hurts has struggled and deserves criticism, but he's not the only reason for this. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has made some bad calls in games, offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has struggled with play calling, and the defense has allowed over 800 yards in the last two games.

The conversation right now should be surrounding whether Hurts is willing to run the ball more to help his team win. If he can accept that, this will blow over, and the Eagles can get back on track. Fans know better, though, that this kind of crazy chatter isn't going to stop any time soon.
