Over the last two years, the Philadelphia Eagles got to see a great battle in practice between cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and wide receiver A.J. Brown.
After Brown got traded to the New England Patriots back in June, that epic battle came to an end. That was until a two-day joint practice between the Eagles and Patriots got underway, and the team got to witness it again.
Everyone knew this would be a battle between players arguably in the top 10 at their positions. The field ultimately decided who would win, with Mitchell making the first move.
Quinyon Mitchell struck first against A.J. Brown at Eagles-Patriots joint practice
There was one play early on at the joint practice that caught everyone's attention. Of course, it was Mitchell against Brown, as the two were down the field together, and despite Brown having a step on Mitchell, it was the All-Pro cornerback who got the last laugh and broke up the play.

While speaking to reporters after practice, Brown was asked about the play. He playfully called foul on Mitchell, but gave the young cornerback his credit.
"Q got away with a little holding, but I won, and he pulled his self back into the play. I just got to finish the play."
Mitchell had a dominant season in 2025, racking up 45 tackles, 17 pass deflections, and one fumble recovery in 16 games. He also allowed a completion percentage of 44.3% and a passer rating of 64.3. The NFL had him as an All-Pro and Pro Bowler.
This was a good reminder of how good Mitchell is as a corner and was able to go toe-to-toe with one of the top receivers. Brown got a nice dose of reality with Mitchell all over that.
To the credit of Brown, he would get the last laugh on the Eagles' secondary and had a really good day of practice. He got one or two on Mitchell, but Brown really burned Riq Woolen time and time again.
Still, it was a good battle between two players who are great at their jobs. It was important for Mitchell to go up against Brown again to be challenged, because it has felt like he has dominated the Eagles' receivers throughout training camp.

While the Patriots won the practice over the Eagles, Brown and Mitchell can call the first day a draw. Day 2, though, could determine who's got the upper hand between the two elite stars.
