Recent theories suggest Eagles, Jalen Carter will reset market with a mammoth payday

It won't be long before Jalen Carter signs a big extension, and when we say 'big', we mean 'big'!

Jalen Carter is a big dude. We mean BIG! Even if you knew nothing of the Philadelphia Eagles star and couldn't pick him out of a lineup, you'd probably just assume he played football if you saw him walk in a room.

Jalen is cut. Not only that, he stands at six-foot-three and tips the scales at around 314 pounds. We sure as heck wouldn't want to block him for 60 minutes of game action.

Over these past two years, we've asked ourselves a question, respectfully of course. How many buffets has this guy gotten kicked out of?

We're teasing of course, but there's also some truth in that statement. We're thankful it isn't our job to cover this young man's grocery bill, but speaking of bills, Carter enters the third year of a four-year rookie deal he signed after being selected ninth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

By virtue of being a first-rounder, there's a fifth-year option built in that Philly can exercise if they so desire. That would make him a free agent in 2028, but trust us on this one.

The Eagles would want to pay him sooner rather than later.

Jalen Carter is expected to break the bank when eligible for a contract extension.

As the NFL expands and becomes more popular, the game is raking in cash more swiftly than it ever has. Guys sign extensions for small fortunes constantly, so what might Carter's number look like when he becomes eligible?

People are beginning to ask that question more often. ML Football recently suggested a $168 million purse spread over four seasons. Philly Cover Corner also projects something in the area of $40 million per season.

Yep! That will certainly cover the grocery tab at Sam's Club.

If you're one of those loyal fans who have asked why a team fresh off a Super Bowl win would let Josh Sweat, Darius Slay, Milton Williams, Isaiah Rodgers, and so many others go... If you're wondering why Dallas Goedert is being dangled as trade bait, this most certainly be a reason

Philly Cover Corner offers the following take:

"Most view (Kansas City Chiefs star Chris) Jones as the best DT in the league, and he is statistically. But, Carter is right with him. Both face double-team rates above 70%, well ahead of the other top contract guys, and both still produce at a silly rate.

Carter is first in forced fumbles, batted passes, and TFLs, second in hits and hurries, (and has) a near 13% win rate and over 10% pressure rate. And you don’t need stats if you just watch him to see how absolutely dominant he is and how much better he makes the line around him (Milt made way more money because of Jalen)."

They go on to state the following:

"Contract prices go up with the salary cap which has been increasing around 8-9% a year. But when you look at DT contracts, they’ve risen even faster as the league’s new premium position, averaging12.5% per year over the past decade and 24% since coming out of COVID."

Let's make long stories short. Carter is going to get PAID whenever his number comes up, and Philly will probably look to pay him sooner rather than later. He's only going to get more expensive.

Whatever the number is, we know it will be massive and worth every penny. Every so often, we think of that Matt Stafford sack in the Divisional Round of the playoffs that probably saved the season.

Yessir. That's certainly going to be brought up during the negotiations. Birds fans should rest easy though. Philly is going to do right by Carter and make sure he sticks around.
