Not only did star running back Saquon Barkley help power the Philadelphia Eagles to their second Super Bowl appearance in three years, but he also added some dollars to his current contract in the process.

Saquon Barkley triggered a contract incentive by helping the Eagles advance to the Super Bowl

By eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark during the regular season (something Barkley did with ease) and making it to the Super Bowl, Barkley triggered a $250,000 incentive in his contract for this season, according to CBS Sports contributor and former NFL agent Joel Corry. His base salary for the next two seasons will also increase by $250,000.

Barkley ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns in Philadelphia's 55-23 walloping of the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship, including two touchdowns on his first two touches of the game. It was an impressive performance, and one that Eagles fans have come to expect from Barkley over the course of the current campaign.

But, despite the individual success that he's obtained in Philadelphia, and the team success that the Eagles have enjoyed so far this season, Barkley isn't satisfied as he knows the job isn't done.

"The dream wasn't just getting there, the dream was winning it," Barkley said of the Super Bowl after Philadelphia's big win over Washington. "That's where the mindset's at."

Barkley played six seasons as a member of the New York Giants and never sniffed the Super Bowl. Now, he's headed to the Big Game in his first season in Philadelphia. It's safe to say that signing him was a shrewd move by Philly's front office, and Barkley's decision to sign with the Eagles -- despite the backlash he faced from fans and media members in New York -- has proven to be an excellent one.

Barkley's 2024 season will go down in history regardless, but if the Eagles are ultimately able to win the Super Bowl and Barkley has another monster performance, his campaign will potentially be remembered as the best individual season in Eagles history.
