While Philadelphia Eagles players are always operating under immense pressure to perform, great expectations also rest on our coaching staff and front-office personnel league-wide.
New Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion has been highlighted by Bill Barnwell of ESPN as one of the offensive coordinators under the most pressure to perform in 2026.
Mannion was named along with David Blough (OC, Washington) and Declan Doyle (OC, Baltimore) as one of three offensive coordinators operating under a microscope this coming season. Each of the three coordinators has dynamic quarterbacks implementing new changes in how they traditionally operate, and for Mannion, the temperature is turned up as the first-year playcaller must help right the ship offensively in Philly.

"These quarterbacks will be asked to play in a fundamentally different way from under center. Jackson was in a more conventional offense during his time at Louisville, but he has shredded teams out of read concepts in the run game, which has also created running lanes for Derrick Henry. Daniels' ability to pick up yardage with his legs in key spots was essential for the Commanders as they sustained drives on third and fourth downs in 2025. And Hurts has three under-center dropback completions in his entire pro career so far.
"It's a big bet by three teams with quarterbacks who have already proved themselves as successful without needing to go under center very often. If those bets work out, Blough, Doyle and Mannion could be in line to earn head-coaching consideration as early as next offseason. If not, well, the world isn't very forgiving to young playcallers. Mannion is the fourth Eagles coordinator in four years. Klint Kubiak had three single-season stints as a coordinator before landing his head-coaching gig with the Raiders. If things go wrong, all three teams could be pursuing new options and moving their quarterbacks back out from under center in 2027."
His first-ever season calling plays is taking place in a media hotbed - for a team with unwavering Super Bowl aspirations - but Mannion is ready for the challenge.
Players have attested to how refreshing the offensive transition has been under the guidance of Mannion, with veterans including Saquon Barkley reflecting on how excited they are to unveil their new-look offense when Week 1 against Washington finally arrives.
And yes, Hurts has only three drop-back completions thus far in his career. Still, he's equally excited to work in unison with Mannion - and he has always successfully adapted to different systems and coordinators throughout his time on the gridiron.
While Barnwell suggests an unsuccessful season could spell a quick exit for Mannion, such a sweeping change in scheme and playcalling deserves time to take shape. Early indications from camp suggest that the players will thrive once more after such a frustrating 2025 season, so unless Mannion does, in fact, generate significant head coaching interest on the open market next off-season, Howie Roseman and company should do everything in their power to keep him in place as offensive coordinator.
