From the moment the Philadelphia Eagles selected North Dakota State quarterback Cole Payton in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, everyone started asking questions about Tanner McKee's future with the team.

While there have been rumors throughout the offseason about a potential trade with Tanner McKee, nothing has materialized yet. Philly Voices' Geoff Mosher shared some interesting details about Payton's future with the Eagles, but it was his McKee comment that certainly caught some attention as well.

"It's possible that McKee could still be traded before the season, which would make the roster decision easier for the Eagles."

Will Tanner McKee actually get traded before the 2026 season?

One thing Roseman has made clear with the media is that the Eagles don't have a problem with carrying four quarterbacks on the roster during the 2026 season. Philly has Jalen Hurts as the clear-cut start, but behind him are McKee, Payton, and long-time veteran Andy Dalton.

If Roseman gets the right trade compensation for McKee, though, he would no doubt be open to moving him before the season. The speculation is that the Eagles are asking for a Day 2 draft pick for McKee, but teams like the New York Jets backed out of trade talks, as they found it too high a price to pay to acquire him.

There's the real possibility that Payton could be the fourth quarterback on the team, but it's worth keeping in mind that he would be more than just a QB. The Eagles would use him in certain packages as he could see the same type of workload that the New Orleans Saints' Taysom Hill sees on the field.

Philly fans hope the Eagles don't rush to trade McKee, as he is a reliable backup in the NFL. For the right price, though, it's worth moving on.
