With temperatures rising and inter-squad competition smoldering for two weeks now, fists eventually being thrown at training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles felt inevitable. Day after day, teammates have been locking horns with one another, and in this heat, something was bound to set off.
Leading up to Thursday's fisticuffs, Cam Jurgens got into it with Jalen Carter last week, while Ty Robinson and Tyler Steen got heated following a spirited one-on-one rep just a few days back.
It seemed only a matter of time before hands were thrown.
Two more Eagles linemen ready to rumble
Well on Thursday, a boiling point was reached as punches were finally thrown, with two more trench teammates involved in the tussle.
Per Johnny McGonigal, offensive tackle Fred Johnson and defensive tackle Moro Ojomo squared off:
"It all started on a red-zone rep toward the end of Thursday’s practice. Johnson, the Eagles’ veteran backup tackle, hit Ojomo, the disruptive defensive tackle, in the neck right before the whistle was blown.
Ojomo, normally a mild-mannered player, took exception to that and threw two punches after the play. Ojomo and Johnson were still on the field for the next play, and all eyes were on them.
On the next snap, Ojomo went low at Johnson, who blocked the d-tackle to the ground. Ojomo got up and swung while Johnson shouted at Ojomo for trying to take out his knees.
Ojomo and Johnson were separated by teammates — but not for long. Ojomo came charging at Johnson again, this time diving for his knees. The two wrestled briefly before (Dom) DiSandro and teammates broke the two up."
You know it's official when Big Dom takes action, and judging by how this red-zone drill unfolded, both players had good reason to take exception to one another's actions. After teammates and coaches helped squash the skirmish, practice was called early, leaving players more primed than ever to find someone in an opposing jersey to battle against.
Preseason action finally kicks off versus the Ravens, while next week's joint practices with the New England Patriots will finally provide the perfect opportunity for Eagles players to square off with fresh blood.
For Ojomo and Johnson, Jergens, Robinson, Carter, and company, it's go time. These guys are chomping at the bit.

Every training camp ramps up in emotions as the dog days of summer play out, and for the Philadelphia Eagles, the time to take out all that angst on the opposition is just a few days away.
