There's no misinterpreting how Jeffrey Lurie feels about Eagles international games

That's clear to us.

While they avoided it last season, the Philadelphia Eagles might be primed to travel internationally for a game in 2026.

The last time the Eagles played internationally was in Brazil back in 2024, to start their Super Bowl run in Week 1, beating the Green Bay Packers 34-29. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was asked about the possibility of playing overseas, and while he is all for it, he wants to make sure of one thing.

"We are not going to give up a home game. We just did that in Brazil," Lurie said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "So we won't be part of a cycle that has to give away a home game in the near future... We are openly available to be an away team. We think it's great for spreading the Eagles and the brand. And it's just, it's the league is so correctly directed and trying to become more global. ... So, yeah, we would be able to be an away team. I don't know if it's gonna happen. They haven't told us, but we're available."

Jeffrey Lurie is open to playing internationally, but not as a home team

The Eagles should be good at not being the home team since they just did it two years ago. There are three possibilities of being the road team for an international game:

  • Dallas Cowboys: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Jacksonville Jaguars: London, UK (Wembley)
  • San Francisco 49ers: Mexico City, Mexico

Playing the Cowboys in Brazil seems like a long shot, as the NFL has typically tried to avoid division rivals from playing elsewhere, but the 49ers and Los Angeles Rams are in Australia in 2026, so fans can't completely count it out. The Jaguars and 49ers games are very likely to happen, with Jacksonville having the higher chance since the NFL likes doing more with AFC versus NFC matchups overseas.

The Eagles have had good success playing overseas, having done so twice and going 2-0 in the international series. Besides the 2024 win over the Packers, they also took down the Jaguars 24-18 at Wembley Stadium in 2018 on their first trip to play internationally.

As long as the Eagles don't have to give up a home game, the fan base should be just fine with whatever happens in 2026.
