Two weeks into the offensive coordinator search, and the Philadelphia Eagles don't appear to be anywhere close to finding the right candidate.
The Eagles have already lost out on almost 10 really good candidates, including Mike McDaniel, Brian Daboll, Mike Mafka, and many more. There is new hope that two coordinators just become available for those who could actually work.
Starting with the New York Jets, they "parted ways" with their offensive coordinator, Tanner Engstrand, after just one year, but he was going to be stripped of his play-calling duties and most likely demoted anyway, so he was essentially fired without being fired. The Denver Broncos stunned many by firing offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi after three seasons, along with two other offensive assistants, both reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Eagles have two perfectly capable candidates available now
Starting with Engstrand, the numbers are not great. The Jets were one of the worst offenses in the NFL, led by the worst passing attack in recent years, but limited by a quarterback in Justin Fields who regressed horribly as a passer, and a head coach in Aaron Glenn who didn't have a clue what he was doing and Engstrand had a mess of a franchise to start his offensive coordinator career in.
This is an assistant who learned from one of the best in Detroit, with Lions head coach Dan Campbell, who is now building a nice coaching tree. Look at what Ben Johnson is doing as the head coach of the Chicago Bears, and think of the possibilities that Engstrand could be if given a better team and a more organized organization to deal with.
As for Lombardi, the Eagles should have called him as soon as the news came in that he was fired. This is a guy who has been an offensive coordinator for nearly a decade, and while it hasn't always been smooth, he has done some great work in the NFL.
Last season with the Broncos, he helped quarterback Bo Nix develop into one of the NFL's top young passers. Denver finished 10th in yards and 14th in scoring last year, much better than the Eagles' offense.

Sure, these guys' names don't hit the same as Daboll and McDaniel, but they have experience and can be good coaches if the Eagles give them a call and interview them for the OC job.
