The injuries to Philadelphia Eagles wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith appear to be minor, but it is causing them to miss time at training camp. This has opened the door for Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts to find another top pass catcher to connect with.
Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert and Hurts already have great chemistry, and it appears they are already in mid-season form. ESPN Eagles reporter Tim McManus shared how Goedert and Hurts were on point with each other during Sunday's practice.
"On a day where A.J. Brown (hamstring) was sidelined and DeVonta Smith (back) was limited, Jalen Hurts sharpened his connection with tight end Dallas Goedert.
The play that stood out was a pretty back shoulder ball by Hurts down the left sideline that Goedert hauled in while being defended by rookie linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. The two have been in sync for the most part throughout camp, and that continued Sunday."
Perfect time for Goedert to start getting noticed
There is a lot of pressure on Goedert to perform well this season after missing 15 games to injury over the last three years. The Eagles and Goedert worked a restructured deal that dropped his base salary for 2025 to $10 million. Philly was rumored to be considering a trade involving Goedert, but decided to stick with him for one more year.
Goedert could either be playing for a future contract with the Eagles or proving to the other 31 teams he can still play. When he was on the field, it was clear he still had it, as he caught over 80% of his passes and averaged nearly 12 yards per reception in 2024.
Durability is the only issue with Goedert as the Eagles need someone they can trust to play a full season. He has not been able to demonstrate this over the last three years, which has led to Grant Calcaterra receiving more time on the field and the Eagles signing Kylen Granson and Harrison Bryant in the offseason.

Hurts and Goedert have always been in sync and have had great chemistry together. It's good to see them working well together once again at training camp. With so many questions at WR3, Goedert is seen as the number three target behind Brown and Smith, so the Eagles need him to stay in that role.
