Last season, Philadelphia Eagles right guard Tyler Steen had a lot to live up to after replacing Mekhi Becton in the starting lineup.
While things weren't perfect with Steen, he still managed a good first full year as a starter, with Eagles fans watching him be the only offensive lineman to start all 17 games in 2025. Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox named Steen as the Eagles' most promising building block entering the 2026 season.
"In recent years, the Philadelphia Eagles have earned a reputation as a team that drafts, develops, and fields excellent offensive linemen. Third-year guard Tyler Steen serves as a great recent example. Drafted in the third round out of Alabama in 2023, Steen was largely a depth piece over his first two seasons. He took over for Mekhi Becton at right guard in 2025, and he quickly became a dependable piece of a line that was embattled by injuries.
Steen started all 17 games for the Eagles this past season and played 96 percent of the offensive snaps. Pro Football Focus ranked him 17th overall and 11th in pass protection among all guards in 2025. Entering a contract year, Steen has a great opportunity to build on last season and earn that lucrative second contract. If the rest of Philly's line can stay healthy in 2026, expect Steen to have an even more impressive campaign than he had last season."
Tyler Steen showing a lot of promise for the Eagles in the future
Pass protection was a big strength to Steen's game last year, allowing 36 pressures, two sacks, and one quarterback hit in 589 pass-blocking snaps. As the season went on, it appeared that he was getting better and better, giving the Eagles a lot of hope that they made the right choice in putting him in the starting lineup.
On the flip side, where Steen struggled with penalties, as he was called on nine of them throughout the season. His run blocking was not completely bad; he still did well there, but pass protection was clearly his bigger strength.
The Eagles need Steen to continue developing as a starter and live up to the expectations of guys like Landon Dickerson, Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson, and Cam Jurgens, who are among the best at their positions. Progress is being made with Steen, as he is at least taking the right steps.
During the offseason, many Eagles fans were hoping the team would bring back Becton to push Steen for the starting right guard job. Instead, the franchise selected Markel Bell and Micah Morris in the 2026 NFL Draft as depth pieces at offensive tackle and guard.

Philly has made it clear that they believe in Steen and will continue to leave him in the starting lineup for the 2026 season. As long as he can continue to progress in his game as he did in 2025, Eagles fans should believe that he is a big part of the future of the team.
