Old familiar face might end up going from 2025 flop to Eagles' savior

Could he jump in and help?

One of the biggest issues with the 2025 Philadelphia Eagles was the issues they had on the offensive line.

Injuries to Lane Johnson, Cam Jurgens, and Landon Dickerson completely derailed a shot at winning back-to-back Super Bowls in Philly, but a former member of that 2024 championship team might be able to return and help out. ESPN NFL writer Matt Bowen named the Eagles as the best team fit for free agent offensive guard Mekhi Becton.

"Becton produced subpar tape last season in L.A. However, a return to Philly, where Becton allowed four sacks and had a 71.2% run block win rate in 2024, makes sense as a depth/competition move. At his best, Becton has the size (6-foot-7, 364 pounds) and physical tools to overwhelm defenders."

Mekhi Becton could solve Eagles' biggest headache right away

Becton was an underrated signing back in 2024, where he competed and won the right guard job after starting his career as the starting left tackle of the New York Jets. After being considered a bust as a top 10 draft pick, Becton found new life with the Eagles and helped them win the Super Bowl.

After just one season, he would sign a two-year, $20 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers to be their starting right guard. That experiment, though, failed miserably with injuries and other issues that made Becton a bad fit for LA.

Now that the Chargers moved on from Becton in the offseason, the Eagles might have an interesting decision to make with depth being a big problem on the offensive line. Becton's replacement, Tyler Steen, did decently in his first full year as the Eagles' starting right guard, but Becton would help either elevate that spot or at least give them a reliable backup who can step in at any time.

A lot has changed in the last year since Becton left, so who knows if he would still be a good fit for the offense, but if the Eagles are serious about getting depth on the offensive line, if Becton comes cheap, he could be a good option.
