Many thought the Philadelphia Eagles might officially sign wide receiver James Proche II after his tryout at OTAs last week, but it appears the team is going in a different direction.

UFL reporter Michael Del Negro was told by a source that the Eagles have signed wide receiver Erik Ezukanma. Over the last few months, Ezukanma was with the DC Defenders in the UFL as he put up 762 all-purpose yards and one touchdown in all 10 regular season games.

Ezukanma was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, spent three seasons with them, and spent a short time with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year. He caught one pass for three yards and five rushes for 22 yards in his NFL career.

Eagles add firepower to offense with Erik Ezukanma

Philly is looking at Ezukanma as a possible option in the return game, as he was a kickoff returner for the Defenders as well as a wide receiver. With Britain Covey dealing with an injury, Ezukanma comes at the right time where he can fill the gap until Covey returns.

This will also give the Eagles some size on the outside at wide receiver, as Ezukanma stands at 6-foot-2 and could be a good option for them. He will have a chance to compete for playing time in the preseason with Johnny Wilson, Darius Cooper, and Elijah Moore at the wide receiver position.

Special teams will be the key for Ezukanma, as he will have to get it done as a returner. Philly could call him to help on kickoff coverage, as well, as he tries to take the same path that Cooper did last year.

The Eagles might have made an underrated move by signing Ezukanma, as he has a chance to surprise some people after proving himself in the UFL.
