Vic Fangio was snubbed... Well, sort of... Don't mind us. We've been channeling our inner A.J. Brown. The Philadelphia Eagles won their second Super Bowl. You'd think we'd be satisfied, but we aren't. Like A.J., it's about the grind for us. Another Lombardi Trophy didn't quench our thirst. Vic Fangio deserved the AP's Assistant Coach of the Year Award.
But, we'll discuss that in more detail in a few. You simply must hear this story.
Coach Fangio isn't satisfied either, but his frustration isn't caused by selfish reasons like ours. His is more team-oriented. Days after the Birds let the confetti fall on their collective faces, our guy Vic was still teaching his players.
One of those players, Jalyx Hunt, shared a wonderful story about our favorite defensive coordinator.
The Eagles' young stars on defense have fallen in love with Vic Fangio's old-school mentality.
Here's one that's worth listening to if you didn't hear it. Jalyx Hunt appeared on the Pete Takes podcast. Check that one out. It's distributed by Eagles Nation (@PHLEaglessNation on X).
He was asked about the leader of Philly's defense. "Unacceptable"... That was Vic's take on his unit's second-half performance during Super Bowl LIX. Hunt said it best. "He wants perfection".

Jalyx isn't the only Bird on the defensive roster that loves the DC. Nolan Smith was quoted at least twice as saying he loved Vic's old-school approach and that he loved it because it reminded him of Kirby Smart at Georgia.
But, back to that postseason award snub. Fangio was one of five Eagles nominated for an AP postseason award. In his case, he was up for Assistant Coach of the Year. He didn't win it. The ONLY NFL assistant we would have understood winning over him was former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and even though that's exactly how it played out, we still have a problem with Vic losing.
So, yes... Maybe we take our cues from, not only A.J. but also defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
The Birds are the champs. Eric Allen will finally be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but it isn't enough. We want more friends! We want the grind, and we want everything!
