The Philadelphia Eagles had a big emphasis on making sure they had all kinds of wide receivers on the roster, but are they in a good position there?
This offseason, the Eagles added Dontayvion Wicks via trade, Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore in free agency, and Makai Lemon in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. DeVonta Smith and Darius Cooper are the only receivers back from last year's roster.
Philly has all kinds of talent in the wide receiver room, with some who have size and others who have speed. The real question is whether they have the right talent to be great in 2026 or if there are concerns at the position.
Eagles' wide receiver room might not be as deep as expected early on
One issue is that the Eagles' wide receivers have awesome potential. Wicks has had a great training camp, Moore is building good chemistry with quarterback Jalen Hurts, and Cooper has dominated training camp for the second straight season.
All that sounds like great news, but it doesn't show they'll be great in the Past 2026. The show shows uncertainty about most of the receivers.
Smith is the only one who might have everyone's confidence, since he has played so well for the Eagles over the last five years. Three 1,000-yard seasons in five years is pretty good, especially since A.J. Brown has been the number one receiver on this team for four of those years.
Outside of Smith, who really knows how good they will be.
Lemon was injured for most of training camp with a hamstring injury. He is a bit behind in his development and did not look good in his preseason debut, so everyone will need to practice patience.
Again, Wicks looks great in training camp, but he was never a standout with the Green Bay Packers. He was, for the most part, a WR3 at best, but last year he was buried in the depth chart, so there are questions about whether he can be a WR2 in this offense.
Hollywood Brown was a major disappointment in training camp, spending most of camp not in sync with Hurts. While he is still seen as a deep threat for the Eagles, how involved he will be in the offense is an interesting question.
Cooper is a fan favorite in Philly, but will he be more involved in the offense this season? He had only nine receptions last year, so who knows whether he'll get more reps in the lineup.
Moore might have the chemistry with Hurts, but with six receivers, he feels like he is at the bottom of the depth chart. His impact may be more felt on special teams than on offense.

This isn't necessarily a knock on the receivers, but the group's uncertainty makes it feel like they aren't as deep as people think. A great Week 1 performance against the Washington Commanders could make everyone eat their words right away.
