Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly clearly had enough of Evan Mathis‘ antics. Kelly chose to release Mathis after likely reaching his boiling point after he failed to show up to OTAs and was openly on the trading block. But now what will the Eagles do to succeed in 2015? Many were already questioning the team’s depth along the offensive line before Mathis was even released, now it’s an even bigger question without the former Pro Bowl guard in the mix. All that and more in this morning’s serving of Bacon, Eggs and Eagles!

Evan Mathis‘ Release Pushes Chip Kelly Ever Closer to Epic Boom-or-Bust in 2015Gary Davenport of BleacherReport.com

"Well, I’ll say this for Philadelphia Eagles grand poobah Chip Kelly: The man isn’t one for sitting on his hands.A new quarterback. A new running back. A revamped wide receiver corps and defense. In the span of just a few months, Kelly has remade the Eagles in his image. Those renovations continued Thursday with the release of veteran guard Evan Mathis, who had yet to attend the team’s offseason activities while seeking a new contract. And while Kelly now has the squad he wants, he’d be well-served to be careful what he wishes for."

Evan Mathis’ release will test Chip Kelly and Eagles’ unproven linemenPhil Sheridan of ESPN.com

"PHILADELPHIA – Evan Mathis’ release will be the biggest test yet of Chip Kelly’s apparent belief that his team’s culture is paramount. When Kelly shockingly released wide receiver DeSean Jackson last year, he had Jeremy Maclin returning from a knee injury to take Jackson’s place. When Kelly topped that move by trading running back LeSean McCoy to Buffalo, he had DeMarco Murray’s signature on a contract within a few days. Trading Nick Foles brought Sam Bradford to the Eagles. But Mathis was released Thursday late in an offseason in which the Eagles made no major additions to their offensive line group. The Eagles reportedly showed some interest in Broncos free agent guard Orlando Franklin, but he signed with the San Diego Chargers. The Eagles did not take a single offensive lineman in the NFL draft for the second consecutive season."

How Can Philadelphia Eagles Replace Evan Mathis’ Production in 2015?Cody Swartz of BleacherReport.com

"The fact that Kelly signed Barbre to a three-year deal back in 2014 suggests he has confidence in him as a starter at one of the spots. Barbre missed all of last season with an ankle injury, but he’s a top-notch athlete who should be an ideal fit for Kelly’s zone-blocking scheme. He’s currently been filling in as the starter in OTAs next to Peters. Barbre has filled in very well when he’s played, which is good news for the Eagles."

Ranking the 25 Best Moves of the 2015 NFL OffseasonSean Tomlinson of BleacherReport.com

"The sleepy NFL days of June are a fine time to reflect on the annual carousel of trading, signing, shuffling and reshuffling.Player movement has long fizzled now, and new pieces are in the process of adapting to new places. Receivers have new quarterbacks, running backs have new offensive lines and, most of all, fans across the NFL have been given the glorious gift of hope."

Why Josh Huff Will Be Philadelphia Eagles’ Most Improved Player in 2015Cody Swartz of BleacherReport.com

"The Philadelphia Eagles spent a third-round draft pick on wide receiver Josh Huff in the 2014 NFL draft, and it’s safe to say head coach Chip Kelly’s faith in his former Oregon Duck was not rewarded.Huff was inconsistent, to say the least, as he struggled to get on the field and provided too many mental and physical lapses when he did play. He caught just eight passes, dropped four and fumbled one of his catches away near the goal line, according to Pro Football Focus."

Although it’s tough to see Mathis leave the City of Brotherly Love, he seemed to take his release in stride and sent out this classy tweet.
