On May 17th, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford finally stepped to the podium and addressed the media.

Next: Doug Pederson To The Media: He’s My Guy

Sam Bradford hasn’t made very many friends over the last few weeks. He’s been destroyed on live television by just about every analyst that is allowed to have an opinion, and he’s been discussed on social media, normally in a less than flattering fashion, by just about everybody who has an account. Eagles fan has turned on him. That’s not to say he had a great deal of support anyway, but the support that he had is all but gone.

What he does have is the support of his coach. Doug Pederson has never waivered in his backing of Bradford or his decision that the veteran will be the Eagles’ starting quarterback once the season gets underway. Fans, however aren’t always as forgiving, and the temperature of an already lukewarm response won’t be rising any time soon.

Dave Spadaro posted an excellent article on the official website of the Eagles containing some of Pederson’s statements concerning Bradford, and that article can be read by clicking here. You haven’t really heard anybody play the role of defense attorney, but the overall theory is the locker room is fine and the other guys realize that this is part of the business of the NFL.

Obviously, it wasn’t a long-term deal, it was a two-year deal. I was well aware of that, we’ve talked about that

Bradford appeared to have his normal zip and precision in practice. That was never really a concern. We all knew he was fine mechanically. The problem was always when the games actually counted and there was another team on the field.

Organized team activities are now underway, and Bradford finally addressed the media by answering the questions everybody’s been asking and the questions you knew the media would have for him by stating “Obviously there are no promises in this business. Obviously, it wasn’t a long-term deal, it was a two-year deal. I was well aware of that, we’ve talked about that,”.

He went on to state “My goal was to play well for the next two years and create that stability that I’ve talked about pretty much my whole career. Philadelphia was the place I wanted to be. I wanted to play well for the next two years, create that stability and then sign a longer-term deal and stay here for the rest of my career.”

When asked about the fans, he went on to say “I get it. They have every right to be frustrated,”. Bradford is aware that good football and Eagles wins will “win them back.” The question is whether or not this will be the year that Bradford shows he has a lot of good football left in him. His best season as a starter was last year when he started 14 games and went .500 with a 7-7 record.

At this point, we’ll just have to wait and see.
