The Birds will have to fight like Rocky Balboa to keep their playoff hopes alive.

It’s no secret that after a 3-0 start for rookie head coach Doug Pederson, rookie quarterback Carson Wentz and Jim Schwartz’s defense, the Philadelphia Eagles have come crashing back down to earth. It’s not surprising for a young team, but the road to redemption is looking like it’s going to be rocky and bumpy. It starts this weekend with the Minnesota Vikings and a returning Sam Bradford.

The Vikings are the only remaining unbeaten team in the NFL. They sit at 5-0 with a defense that’s arguably the best in the league. The Eagles then travel to play two divisional games. The first is against the Dallas Cowboys, who appear to be legit. Then there’s the New York Giants who may have found their offense. Division games are always tricky, but this is even more of a fact now.

It’s a tough three-game stretch that may yield success. The Eagles will be facing all three of these teams following their bye weeks. Each team is young, and they’ve been playing well as of late. Maybe the bye week could halt each one’s momentum. The Eagles game could be a trap game for each team. Sound familiar? .

While that tough three game stretch may very well favor the Eagles, the rest of the season will be no cakewalk.

All three squads are very young, and have been playing consistently well as of late, with the only thing seemingly capable of halting their momentum is the bye week. These have trap games written all over them. Sound familiar?

Following those three games, the Eagles host the Atlanta Falcons. They’re 4-2 and have the best offense in the league. Then there’s a game against the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle. It’s always tough to play there, and the Seahawks may be able to lay claim to the best defense in the league. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers travel to “the city of brotherly love” after that. Then there’s a trip to Ohio to play the Cincinnati Bengals, a team who can play with the best of them. .

The remaining four games feature mostly divisional games, and, as mentioned earlier, those are always tough. One can find solace in the fact that all three will be within the confines of Lincoln Financial Field. After playing the Washington Redskins a second time, the Eagles go on the road to meet the Baltimore Ravens, a team that has been a model for inconsistency in recent weeks. That will be followed by rematches with the Giants, and Cowboys. All three of these division games are sure to have massive playoff implications.

So while the Eagles soared in the earlier part of the season, we all may want to buckle up. The rest of the season won’t be an easy ride.
