Once the free agency period begins on March 9th, Terrelle Pryor will have quite a few suitors.

The NFL Combine has kept all of us glued to our seats. So has the impending free agency period. Every fan of the Philadelphia Eagles is obsessed with how this team gets better. The questions about the wide receiver position won’t go away, and if you look around the internet, there’s an article linking just about everybody who plays the position to Philadelphia.

Now, it’s Terrelle Pryor‘s turn. It’s hard to figure out what’s going on with the Cleveland Browns. They just can’t seem to figure it out. There’s been a revolving door at coach and quarterback since they re-entered the NFL. Outside of Joe Thomas, it doesn’t even appear that they’re capable of hanging on to the guys who are actually working out for them.

With that being said, it appears Pryor will be free to sign with whomever he chooses once the free agency period begins on March 9th. The Eagles, desperate for help at wide receiver are now part of the rumor mill. The Eagles keep seeing their name attached to every prospect at receiver. Pryor may actually be a real possibility. There’s just one question. Is he a long term answer?

The bright side:

Pryor’s coming off of the 2016 season where he notched over 1,000 yards and four touchdowns. He played quarterback in college, and it appears that’s helped with his transition to wide receiver at the professional level.

He’s a gifted athlete and has caused headaches for defensive coordinators since entering the league. His versatility would be a welcome addition to any team. His production, in spite of all the limitations he had in Cleveland makes some wonder what he’d be capable of in an environment more conducive to winning and being successful.

The other side:

Remember Kordell Stewart and that “slash” thing the Pittsburgh Steelers were trying to do with him? In some ways, Pryor reminds you of that. Yes, he’s versatile. The only problem with that is history has taught us that players who are decent at everything never really become great at anything.

Pryor has shown he can play receiver at the pro level, but you have to ask a question. Can he be “the guy”, or is he better suited to be a second option? Is he the go-to guy when you need a play on third down or when the game’s on the line? Is he truly clutch, or his he merely a complimentary piece in an offense with other weapons around him? We mean no disrespect because he truly has earned the right to be respected, but it’s definitely something to think about.

It’s especially important to think about when an NFL team (which could possibly be the one in Philadelphia) is getting ready to throw quite a bit of money in his direction.
