Three Eagles insiders gave Alshon Jeffery the stamp of approval recently.

Free agency in the NFL just might be the biggest gamble in all of sports. Just ask any fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. Sure, you can end up with someone like Troy Vincent or Darren Sproles, but there’s always a chance that you can also end up with Nnamdi Asomugha. Truthfully, it’s not certain if Eagles fans have gotten over the Asomugah debacle yet. Still, there’s a ton of excitement surrounding all of the talent the Eagles fished out of the free agency pool, and it begins with the guy that figures to be Carson Wentz‘s go-to guy, receiver Alshon Jeffery.

Recently, as minicamp ended, Les Bowen, Dave Spadaro and Chris McPherson visited with Fran Duffy on the Eagles Eye In The Sky podcast. It’s hard to ignore anything Eagles-related that these guys have to say individually. Getting all three of them in the same place at the same time almost makes anything they say cant-miss audio.

Bowen gives Jeffery the thumbs up.

All three were asked the same question. Who was the number one player that stood out during the spring? All three gave the same name, Alshon Jeffery. Bowen had this to say. “I thought his size stands out. His ability to control his body at the sideline stands out…He’s going to make a huge difference in that receiving corps”.

It appears Jeffery’s won over Spadaro as well.

Spadaro echoed much of that. He added his own spin on things to the discussion as well, stating “It’s because of the impact of a big-time receiver in this offense. I’ve got to be honest with you. I was not a huge Alshon Jeffery fan from the little I saw when he played in Chicago, but here, the way that he commands the space, the way he creates openings in the passing lanes for Carson Wentz, the confidence and comraderie and chemistry that those two have developed and understanding that the Eagles struggled so much in the red zone last season, I think that Alshon will be a huge impact player and already has been for this Philadelphia Eagles offense that lacked the punch last year.”

“C Mac” co-signs.

Chris McPherson had this to say. “He has proven to be the real deal to this point. He pretty much caught everything his way during the spring…Dave Spadaro talked with Doug Pederson, and the head coach said that, in the plays they’ve charted, (he had) two drops the entire spring. I mean (that’s) absolutely phenomenal.”

Erasing some bad memories:

Truly, it’s hard to get totally excited when thinking of all of the mistakes the Eagles made in free agency recently. Especially when names like Leodis McKelvin or DeMarco Murray are fresh in our memory. Still, it’s hard to deny the Eagles have upgraded at so many key positions. With that being said, it’s hard not to listen to the experts.

Expect big things from Jeffery during the 2017 season.
