2 winners (and 3 losers) for Eagles after the first wave of free agency

A quiet first week....

The Philadelphia Eagles have exited the first week of free agency with not much to show for it.

They were able to sign cornerback Riq Woolen, which was a great move, but besides that, there has been mostly radio silence. Philly has made signings here and there, but none that could be seen as splash signings to get the Eagles fan base excited.

Overall, it has felt as if the Eagles came out of the first week as one of the biggest losers of the 2026 offseason so far, but there is plenty of time to turn it around. Here's a look at the winners and losers from Week 1 of free agency for the Eagles.

Loser: A.J. Brown, Wide Receiver

Brown has been asking for a trade for a long time, and he's going to have to wait a little longer. Despite teams like the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams trying to get him in a trade, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has stood his ground on a first- or second-round pick, with no one taking the deal. More than likely, the Eagles will have to wait until after June 1 to get a trade executed with Brown.

Winner: Grant Calcaterra, Tight End

No one could have imagined the Eagles actually bringing back Calcaterra after the kind of season he had with his blocking, but Philly continues to stand by him and bring him back. This could be because he's a solid, cheap option for the Eagles at tight end, but as of right now, he might end up being the starter in 2026, depending on the Dallas Goedert and draft situations.

Loser: Dallas Goedert, Tight End

Speaking of Goedert, there's a chance the Eagles bring him back on a new deal to stay with the team, but the delay is really hurting his market. The longer Philly drags this out, the less money Goedert will make, with teams already spending a ton. This could really hurt Goedert's chances of a nice payday.

Winner; Vic Fangio, Defensive Coordinator

Yes, Fangio has lost three starters on defense, and that will hurt, but he finally got a solid starting CB2 on his defense. Woolen gives the Eagles the length they have been looking for at cornerback, with Woolen being 6-foot-4 tall. Fangio has to at least be happy about that.

Loser: Howie Roseman, General Manager

While the Woolen signing was a strong one for the Eagles, Roseman really didn't cook the way fans have seen him in the past. He missed out on big names like trading for Maxx Crosby, re-signing Jaelan Phillips, missed on most of the Eagles' free agents, and didn't get Trey Hendrickson. Most of the work will have to be done during the draft, but this felt like a lackluster first week of free agency from Roseman.
