The Philadelphia Eagles decided to catch up some money for a cornerback as a rental for a short time, as they agreed to a deal with former Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen.

Philly signed Woolen for a one-year, $15 million contract. It was seen as a great move for the Eagles, as they have been looking for a long cornerback to line up at the other outside cornerback spot alongside Quinyon Mitchell. While he has had some inconsistent play, Woolen should be an update from Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo last year.

What some might not know is that his contract details are actually better than some might think. Spotrac shared the details of Woolen's contract, which is fully guaranteed and a one-year, $12 million deal. There are four void years for cap, with his 2026 cap hit at just $3.4 million and his 2027 void-year cap hit at $8.6 million.

The salary cap has been a concern for the Eagles as they try to save every dollar they can, with contract extensions being worked out and them trying to figure out what to do about A.J. Brown and Dallas Goedert. For them to only take a $3.4 million cap hit in 2026 is just genius work by Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to save money wherever he can.

Woolen had a solid 2025 season with the Seahawks as he racked up 41 tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, 12 pass deflections, and one interception on the year. While he has been in and out of the starting lineup, the 6-foot-4 cornerback now joins an Eagles team with more stability in the secondary and can work well with Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

The Eagles still have some big financial decisions to make over the next few days, but this Woolen deal was about as good a move as Roseman has made all offseason.
