One of the under-the-table conversations among the Philadelphia Eagles fan base and national sports media is whether the team should consider trading its star quarterback, Jalen Hurts.
Many believe that Hurts took a massive step back last season despite throwing only six interceptions, earning his third Pro Bowl selection, and taking the Eagles to the playoffs. There have been questions about whether he can read a defense well or throw the ball in the middle of the field, as well as his reluctance to run the football.
Philly seems committed to their quarterback, and it shows in his contract. Spotrac reported that the Eagles are now on the hook for $22 million in guaranteed money to Hurts for 2027, as he is under contract for three years with $154.5 million remaining.
Jalen Hurts has $22 million guaranteed to him from Eagles in 2027
The idea of moving on from Hurts seems insane, given that the quarterback position isn't as strong as it has been in past years. Hurts is still playing very good football as he has won nearly 70% of his starts, has taken his team to the Super Bowl twice, and won one of them.
Trading Hurts away would be insane, as half the league would be begging to get him. The Eagles themselves know how good they have it with him, but the national media doesn't see it the same way, as they see a quarterback who is limited in his abilities. Philly fans see him as a winner, which is all that matters.
Last year's performance could be put on former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo for his basic play-calling and for not putting his star players in a position to succeed. Patullo didn't unleash Hurts as he should have, and that affected his play on the field.

Hurts seems excited to work with his new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion, so all seems well in Philly. The Eagles commit big money to Hurts, and the fan base will be okay with that as long as they keep winning.
