30. San Francisco 49ers
Jason Verrett
Cornerback, TCU
Previously: Jimmie Ward (Safety, NIU)
Giorgos:
The San Francisco 49ers pick a player that can start from day one as their nickel corner. Jason Verrett is a fast and physical cornerback who stays close to the receiver throughout the play. He is a decent tackler who rarely allows big plays. Not a big factor against the run, mainly due to lack of strength. Verrett needs to add some muscle to improve his chances against running backs or bigger receivers.
Dave:
The most difficult team to mock lucks out by landing Jason Verrett, a ferocious cornerback that if he were two inches and twenty pounds heavier, he’d be a legitimate threat at being a top-ten choice. Verrett made the Walter Camp Foundation’s All-American team in 2013 and held top-20 selection Odell Beckham, Jr. to just one reception. He’ll start out in the nickel, much like Fuller, but could eventually see time outside if needed.
