Old faithful itself, the Eagles safety position, returns to the need list for a sixth straight year. Malcolm Jenkins, easily the best safety this team has seen since the Dawk himself, is in no jeopardy. It’s the other side that I weep for.
Even though he had a multiple interception performance vs. the Cowboys, Nate Allen is not a starter I would feel comfortable with next year. He’s been an Eagle for five seasons (after this year), and by this point he is exactly who we thought he was.
Not sure about you, but I’d like to feel like there are actually two safeties on the field in future seasons. Still, I feel for Nate and wonder if the flurry of DB coaches he had since entering the NFL cost him valuable time and stability.
Earl Wolff, initially a fan favorite due to being an Eagles fan prior to being drafted, has likely seen his final taste of the field as a member of the team after being placed on IR for the second straight year. We wished and hoped for Wolff to be more of a “Wolffman” and less an “Earl of Dook”, but it’s not Philadelphia unless we have something to complain about profusely at safety.
Chris Maragos and Chris Prosinski are special teams additions. Nothing wrong with that, but the Eagles can’t get backed into having to put them on the field in a crucial situation.
2015 Draft Need: 9/10
