Eagles Draft UCLA Quarterback Brett Hundley?

So the trade happens, and the Eagles get their quarterback in round two in the shape of UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley.   To further stabilize the position, the Eagles likely resign Mark Sanchez as well.  So the Eagles enter 2015 with Brett Hundley, Matt Barkley, and Mark Sanchez.

Does that group intimidate a defense?

I don’t think so.   I think it would be best if the Eagles plan to start Foles in 2015, and simply do the best player available at the quarterback position to work into being ready to compete for a start in 2016.  Unless the team believes in Nick Foles as the starter.  In that case, resign Mark Sanchez and reload for 2015.

I’ve read a number of teams who would be interested in Nick Foles.  The teams mentioned so far have been the Houston Texans, the Denver Broncos (if Peyton Manning retires), and the Tennessee Titans.  Of that group, only the Titans offer a position in the NFL draft which could help the Eagles get a top quarterback.  They would likely offer no higher than a second rounder for the Eagles starter if they do have bona fide interest.   The two other teams simply do not have enough draft currency to balance the trade out for the Eagles.   In short, trading our starter gives the Eagles an immediate need for one, without any greater opportunity of getting one.     I suspect that trades involving Nick Foles are, for the time being, just thoughts being put to print without substance.

Before the Eagles can say goodbye to a starting quarterback, they have to say hello to the next one.    If they are determined to do so, look for the team to draft a quarterback to play behind Foles for a year and compete in 2016 for a starting role.  Otherwise, the team will struggle to remain in post season discussions.
