Frank Gore Says “I QUIT” To Eagles Offer

In the “legal tampering” phase of free agency, the Philadelpha Eagles were reported to have reached an agreement with San Francisco running back Frank Gore.  While not a fan of the player, I could see how his running style would compliment the Eagles running game.  His north/south style seemed legitimate to maintain enough of a running threat in McCoy’s absence to give the Eagles the running option on any offensive down.

But the tampering period does not allow teams to contractually obligate players to come, so the Indianapolis Colts, who were also in the market for a running back, simply took the details from the Eagles offer, upped the guaranteed money component of the contract, and packaged their offer with a joint visit with former teammate wide receiver Andre Johnson.   Now caught with wanting the new contract and the chance to play alongside a former teammate, Gore rationalized his decision not to honor his word to play for the Eagles by accusing Chip Kelly of creating an environment that he didn’t wish to play for.  So be it.   The Eagles were down a star wide receiver and running back, and once more the infamy of Frank Gore was repeated: he kicked the Eagles franchise when they were down.
