Safety

In a league where many teams are looking for two starting safeties, the Eagles are lucky enough to have one in Malcolm Jenkins. But they still have to find another starter to play alongside of him. Last year, they had Nate Allen in the spot and he did a decent job but he was nothing special and signed a quite lucrative contract with the Raiders.

Philadelphia made a hard push for Devin McCourty but he ultimately decided to take less money and re-sign with the Patriots. That left Philadelphia with limited options on the market and all of them signed inflated contracts that the team was smart to steer clear of. There are still a couple of “stop-gap” solutions on the market such as Dwight Lowery and Dawan Landry, but the birds have yet to show any interest in them.

That leaves the team with the 2015 NFL Draft. Alabama’s Landon Collins is viewed as the top safety in the class but doesn’t really fit what the Eagles look for at the position. They like players that are versatile in the secondary and can cover well, that isn’t exactly Collins’ strength. But there are other players such as Utah’s Eric Rowe and Connecticut’s Byron Jones who have spent time at both cornerback and safety, which may interest the Eagles.

The team has also scheduled a visit with Arizona State safety Damarious Randall, according to Dane Brugler. His name flew under the radar for quite a while but it seems like since the combine, Randall’s stock has been on the rise. There are a couple of other safety prospects that I personally like at safety for the birds such as Samford’s Jaquiski Tartt and Louisville’s James Sample.
