Round 4 (via SF): Blake Bell, TE, Oklahoma
When Chip Kelly became the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, the first draft pick the team made was on Oklahoma offensive tackle Lane Johnson. While he was at Oklahoma, Johnson played tight end, defensive end, right tackle and left tackle. That brings us to another freakishly large prospect from Oklahoma, tight end Blake Bell. At 6’6″, 252 lbs., Bell has the size to be an NFL tight end but didn’t start playing the position until his senior year as a Sooner.
Prior to the switch, Bell was known as the “Bell-dozer” because he was a physical, running quarterback. Although he finished the 2014 season with a very underwhelming stat-line of 16 catches for 214 yards and 4 touchdowns, Bell made strides as a tight end throughout the year. Scouts were also very surprised with how far he has progressed during practices at the Senior Bowl as well. He followed that up with a solid performance at the combine with a 4.80 forty-yard dash, 4.32 second 20-yard shuttle and an 11.81 second 60-yard shuttle.
For those that may not understand those shuttle drills, those drills are used to judge a players quickness and change of direction ability. For his size, those are very impressive times for Bell, who also posted a 33″ vertical jump as well. With former Eagles tight end James Casey being released, the team could look for someone to take that spot on the depth chart. Bell would be a big body that the team sorely needs as far as receiving weapons go. The Eagles have already shown significant interest in Bell, as they attended his pro day and took him out for dinner as well, according to Tony Pauline via Walter Football.
Next: Round 5 (via STL): Adrian Amos, FS, Penn State
