Eagles fans have been begging for semi-average safety play since the Brian Dawkins era. Well, they finally have it.

Along with Malcolm Jenkins, Walter Thurmond has been an absolute sensation for the Eagles this season. Now, last week’s game against the Buccaneers wasn’t exactly the best showing for just about anyone on the Eagles’ defense, but, in that game, Thurmond was still able to record a sack for the second straight week; something an Eagles safety hasn’t been able to do since you know who.

Thurmond has added another dimension to Philadelphia’s defensive backfield. Like Jenkins, Thurmond is an ex-cornerback who is a fast, surprisingly physical ball-hawk. He has the ability to play play slot corner and outside corner if need be, and that has been huge for the Eagles’ defense in 2015.
