6. Ron Brooks

Of all the Eagles’ free agent signings, cornerback Ron Brooks is easily the most under-the-radar player added to Philadelphia’s roster. The former Buffalo Bill isn’t a household name, but considering the trade that sent cornerback Byron Maxwell to the Miami Dolphins, he may play a bigger role next season than anticipated.

Brooks is a former fourth-round pick out of LSU in the 2012 NFL Draft. At only 5’10”, 190 pounds, Brooks isn’t a very big corner, but he’s very fast. He ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at the 2012 NFL Combine and that speed gives him the ability to make plays like this one.

Yes, that was a lucky play for Brooks, but he brings good breaking speed to the table and, despite being paid like a depth corner, he’s looking to be a starter for the Eagles.

Is this the sexiest signing? Not at all, but it’s a decent one, especially for a team lacking depth in the secondary.
