Darren Sproles

What needs to be said about Darren Sproles? Easily one of the best third down backs in the league and rotational backs of our time, Sproles is everything you want out of a running back when he steps onto the field: quick feet, great vision, good hands, knows when to peel off, and the list goes on. The only thing Sproles doesn’t have on his side is youth.

Sproles will be turning 34 in a few short weeks (Happy Birthday, Tank!) and although that doesn’t mean he is going to stop being the beast that he is, it may mean he is one year closer to that being a possibility. No player has the capability of beating father Time. That’s not being an ageist here. That is just the reality of things in the NFL.

The odds are Sproles’ production isn’t going to drop or fall off of a cliff. He isn’t the lead-back, so  it stands to reason that he is just as fresh as he’s ever been. He hasn’t been put through the ringer, and he was the linchpin of the Eagles’ screen pass and short passing attack last year. Sproles served as the ultimate safety blanket for Sam Bradford, bailing him out in many pressure situations. With that being said, Sproles is a great fit for any offense a coach is running especially those that are centered around the running game. Trust that with the possibility of a rookie QB stepping on the field at some point, Sproles is most certainly going to remain in the mix.
